It’s that time of year again, everyone is doing back to school shopping for their favorite student. Let’s take a look at a few back-to-school projects that we can make with our Cricut Maker. We can add a special touch to all those school supplies and even personalize a t-shirt or bag!
Are you getting your house and kiddos ready for the first day of school? It seems strange to me that I’m not doing any back-to-school shopping this year. My boys are all grown up, although my husband works for our local school district, so he has been doing his back-to-school shopping!
The back-to-school supplies are all on sale in lots of stores now. It is a great time to stock up! I stopped by the Dollar Store today to pick up some supplies for back to school projects I have listed below. The only one I did not purchase at the dollar store was the children’s sweatshirt. I picked it up at Old Navy on sale for $10.00!
Back-to School Pencil Box –
A pencil box is a fun and simple project to customize. I saw that most of the grade school supply lists requested a pencil box, which is to help organize a student’s desk. So, I started with a dollar store pencil box and then used adhesive vinyl 651. You could also use 631, but the majority of my adhesive vinyl supply is 651. This is how I personalized the pencil box, by just adding my favorite student’s name! You could also do a cute back-to-school saying!
I decided to also add a cute pencil outline from Design Space. The font I used for “Chloe”, my favorite little third grader was “A Child’s Year” from Design Space!
Below is the outcome!
Back-to School Pencil Pouch –
The next customized school supplies I did were pencil pouches. The pouches are a great addition to the inside of a binder or backpack to help organize pens and pencils. This is an excellent project for Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) or Adhesive Vinyl. What is your favorite students’ favorite hobby or sport? Add a design to the pouch and then their name!
The pouches shown below, I picked up at the dollar store.
I decided to use only two of the pouches that I picked up today. I used adhesive vinyl on the plastic pouch and then HTV on the other. The first pouch I just added “Chloe” using the “Challenger Pro Regular” font and in silver glitter HTV. The second pouch I added a cute saying and a darling little pencil design from Design Space using adhesive vinyl. Both of these pouches are designed for a binder since they have re-enforced holes, but they are also easy to slip in a bag!
Back-to School Drawstring Backpack –
A Drawstring Backpack is another fun project using HTV. Simply add a name and design to customize your favorite student’s backpack. Depending on the material of your backpack, it will determine if you can customize it with HTV. This backpack is made of a nylon polyester blend which ended up working great! You can do this same type of project to a larger backpack as well though!
My favorite third grader is really into donuts these days so I thought I would add this cute walking donut and of course her name. How I did her name was a little different this time, I did it by doing a knockout technique. A knockout is were you use the Slice feature in Design Space and split the image, allowing you to use two colors in the design.
Back-to School Lunch bag –
What about customizing your favorite student’s lunch bag? Or even your lunch bag? On the polka dot lunch bag I used a patterned HTV from Cricut and then on the black and white bag I used white HTV to give it a little pop!
Back-to School Tote Bag –
I loved this project! A tote bag is also a fun project to give as a gift. You can make one for your favorite student, your favorite teacher and even make one for yourself! I use tote bags for many different things, like for running errands, taking on day trips, or for storing a craft project.
These are the two cute tote bags I picked up from the dollar store. I added “Chloe” to the crossbody tote and on the larger tote, I added a saying using the font “Confetti and Sprinkles” in Design Space.
Back-to School Subject Folders –
Let’s get our back-to-school supplies organized by adding a customized label to your subject folders!
Now, I am going to show my age here, but we used to call these Pee Chees when I attended school!
Adding labels to subject folders is a fun and easy project using adhesive vinyl to organize homework. I used green holographic vinyl from Cricut on this project.
Back-to School T-Shirt –
Making a unique t-shirt is another fun and personalized gift! You can add a fun saying or even a creative design. You can find a plain t-shirt on sale for as low as $3.00 a piece at many different stores, but I picked up this t-shirt from the dollar store! Adding your favorite design can turn a plain t-shirt into a priceless addition to those back to school clothes and I just love that it’s made from home!
This was the cute saying I added on the t-shirt from Design Space!
Back-to School Sweatshirt –
Sweatshirts are the one thing I remember being so expensive when I went school shopping for my boys. They always wanted one with a motocross scene on the front. And what’s awesome about customizing any plain sweatshirt is that Design Space has so many designs available to us. You can let your favorite student or yourself pick a design and simply add it to a sweatshirt. It is so fun to have a one of a kind sweatshirt! You can even add their name/last name to the back of the sweatshirt, which I ended up doing!
I found this cute saying “If you can dream it you can do it”! on Design Space.
Back-to School Umbrella
What about making an everyday black umbrella special by adding a little customization? Yep! Of course we can do that! I thought this font was so cute that I found on Design Space. It is called “Cheerful Shapes.” I was also very excited and surprised to find umbrellas at the dollar store!
Back-to School Water Bottle
Making a unique water bottle is another excellent project for adhesive vinyl. Add your favorite student’s name to their water bottle, it’s as simple as that! I used 651 vinyl on this project. I like to use a bulky font to help with adhering the design to the plastic bottle. You can also do this project on a stainless steel tumbler and add a coat of epoxy on top of the cup with the vinyl already on.
And here’s a special note; these plastic water bottles cannot go in the dishwasher.
Back to school time is a busy time for families. I hope these Back-to-School project ideas give you some inspiration on how you can use your Cricut to customize your favorite student’s back to school supplies and clothes! These are all so fun, and simple! Remember my goal is to inspire you to create! Let me know what type of back-to-school projects you do for your favorite student!
