Did you know that your Cricut Machine can cut leather? You can create beautiful leather earrings with your Cricut Machine. You will need a Deep Cut Blade and some leather. I also added iron-on glitter vinyl to add some sparkle to some of my earrings or faux leather to add fun colors. Check out the simple step-by-step photo and video tutorial below.
Recently, I had a friend that was looking for some sparkly earring to where to Mardi Gra! She ordered some online, and they did not show up. So she asked me if I could make some for her! I had some leather on hand. Have you seen Cricut’s Gold Metallic leather? It is beautiful, so I just needed to add some purple and green to complete the look she wanted to match her outfit!
I figured out I could make earrings. I had seen lots of different designs online, and I thought I could make them! Using Cricut Metallic Leather to use as the base and adding some Glitter HTV, I was excited to start the project. I already had jewelry supplies on hand.
This project is so easy to make, and the results are stunning! When I completed the first pair, I sent a picture to my friend, and she was so excited! They were just what she was looking for to complete her outfit. She could not believe that I had them done so fast. When you have a Cricut Maker on hand, the possibilities are endless.
Today I’m sharing a couple of different designs so you can make a variety of different shapes depending on what you like! The Free Download is available on my FREE Resource Page. You can sign up for it right here!

Cut out Leather and Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Begin by placing a piece of Strong Grip Transfer Tape on the Purple Strong Grip Mat. Then place the Leather on a Purple Strong Grip Mat finished or smooth side down.
- Move the star wheels to the right-hand side of the machine. The reason you do this is so the wheels don’t leave an impression on the leather. Make sure the leather has adhered to the Mat. If the leather does not adhere, secure the sides of the leather to the Mat using masking tape. You don’t want the leather to move around.
- There are a couple of different designs to choose from on the FREE Designs I have for you.
- Upload the designs into Design Space. They are already pre-sized for you, but you can make them smaller or larger, depending on your preference. If you would like to cut all of the earrings at once, change the designs to be one color.
- Switch out the Fine-Point Blade for the Deep-Cut Blade.
- Select “Make” in Design Space, then choose Genuine Leather as the cutting option.
- Insert the Mat into the Cricut Machine and begin cutting once the cut has been completed eject the Mat and carefully peel away the excess leather, leaving the earrings on the Mat!
- Move the star wheels back to their original position and switch back to the Fine-Point Blade. Cut a section of vinyl large enough for the earrings you wish to make and apply it to the Mat.
- Select the type of vinyl you are cutting. I used HTV Glitter Vinyl. The insert the Mat and eject it once it has finished cutting all of the earring files.
Finish Edges of Leather
- I learned a trick to finish off the edges of the leather. I used a lighter to VERY carefully burn off any frayed edges.
Heat Transfer Vinyl onto Leather
- Weed the HTV design you have for each earring.
- Heat your Easy Press. I set mine at 300 degrees, and I set the timer for 15 seconds.
- Place the leather earrings on your Easy Press Mat
- If you have different colors of HTV Glitter, you will apply them separately. Place the Glitter HTV on the earring and cover with a Teflon sheet and press with the Easy Press. Repeat this process on all of the earrings.
- Remove the Backing from the HTV and you are ready for the next step!
Attach Metal Hooks to Earrings
Now it’s time to attach the metal hooks to the earrings. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers gently open the eye of the earring until it’s wide enough to allow the earring to fit through it.
If the hole in the earring is not open enough for the earring to fit through, then you can use a leather hole punch or awl to poke a hole through the earring and then insert the hook into the hole from the back of the earring. Use your needle nose pliers to close the earring. Repeat this process on all of the earrings.
Now you have a beautiful set of handmade leather earrings!!
I can’t wait to see what you create with this tutorial. Don’t be afraid to get creative and use different colors or designs to your earrings. You can also add some decorative metal or beads to your handmade earrings. Add a fun mandala design to the earrings.
