What better way to serve appetizers at your next get together than by making a resin cheese board or charcuterie board. The fun about making these boards are that the resin color will serve as a piece of art in your kitchen. Seeing how great they turned out, Consider making one as a gift to the next wedding, bridal shower, or even a birthday party you are attending.
Resin painting is so fun, and there is no way to mess up a design. Let’s get started!
SUPPLIES
Step #1 Tape Board
Use blue tape to tape off the back of the board. This way, when the resin drips over the sides, it will easily peel off when it dries. Make sure to press down the tape around the edges well.
Step #2 Mix Resin
Add equal amounts of part A and B together in a measuring cup. I used two tablespoons of each Part A and Part B Amazing Epoxy. Mix the resin for at least 2 minutes, making sure to scrape the sides of the cup to get all the resin mixed.
Step#3 Add Paint to Resin
Pour equal amounts of resin into each of the small plastic cups. Then add a drop of paint into each cup. Mix the paint and resin until there are no streaks in the mixture, and it is runny.
Step #4 Apply Resin
I like to start by adding resin layers in stripes beginning at the top. Now the fun part starts! I like to keep a natural edge, so I didn’t tape off an exact line on the front of the board. If you want a clean look, you can add a line of blue tape as I did on the back.
Step #5 Marbling
You can use a straw to blow designs or a popsicle stick to swirl the paint around to create a marble effect.
Step #6 Apply Heat
Graze the heat tool over the resin areas to get all the bubbles out. I let the resin sit for 30 minutes, then come back and use the heat tool again. This is also a great time to make sure your sides are all covered with resin.
Step #7 Let Dry
After 1 hour, take the tape away from the bottom of the board. The resin may take up to 72 hours to dry thoroughly.
Step #8 Apply Mineral Oil
Once the board is dry, I like to add a couple layers of mineral oil to the board and clean up any resin that might have dripped onto the back of the board. A light sanding will help with removing drips of resin on the back.
To care for your resin cheese board, clean only with a damp cloth. Never immerse the board or resin in water. The board can be wiped down with cooking oil occasionally if needed.
And there you have it. Your cutting board is ready to go! This board makes a great serving board or charcuterie board for when you have guests over.
