If you love to personalize things, making customized koozies is a must-try! I love to use mine on the patio, in the boat, or around the campfire. I have come to appreciate koozies, and they keep your drinks cold. Maybe it’s the fun sayings or the various colors that hug a beverage of your choice. Whatever it is, it can add a little bit of flair to a drink, and love it!
I decided it would be fun to customize some koozies by adding a little humor to this whole Pandemic situation we are all in with COVID-19! I added a funny saying and added them to my adult kid’s Easter Baskets, and I couldn’t forget to make my husband and me a pair, of course!
If you are in the market for a quick and easy gift, these DIY Customized Koozies might fit that bill. The cost is less than $1 per Koozie + the cost of vinyl. This post will show you how to customize your koozies using both heat transfer vinyl (HTV) and Infusible Ink.
You can either follow the step by step directions below or watch the tutorial video, you choose!
SUPPLIES AND TOOLS FOR CUSTOMIZED KOOZIES WITH HTV
- Koozie Blank
- Cricut EasyPress
- Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)
- Teflon Sheet
- Cricut EasyPress Mat
- Lint roller
- Weeding Tool
STEPS TO MAKE PERSONALIZED KOOZIES WITH HTV
Step #1 Image/Design
I created the image with my Cricut Maker using HTV. You can get the FREE cut file saying I am using in my Resource Library (for personal use only). Make sure to place the shiny side of the vinyl face down on the cutting mat and cut the image/design using the mirror image option.
Step #2 Weeding Design
Once the image/design has completed cutting, remove the vinyl from your cutting mat. With a weeding tool, weed out the excess vinyl around the saying and the insides of letters.
Step #3 Applying Image/Design
Position the image/design on the Koozie and place a thin piece of fabric (or a Teflon sheet) over the image/design to protect the image and Koozie. If you are using an Easy Press, you will want to double-check your heat settings using Cricuts Easypress Guide HERE.
Remove the transfer paper, and it should peel away easily.
Once you have successfully removed the transfer paper and the vinyl is set, repeat the process to set the HTV.
SUPPLIES AND TOOLS FOR CUSTOMIZED KOOZIES THE INFUSIBLE INK
STEPS TO MAKE CUSTOMIZED KOOZIES WITH INFUSIBLE INK
Step #1 Image/Design
I created the image with my Cricut Maker using Infusible Ink. You can get the FREE cut file saying I am using in my Resource Library (for personal use only). Make sure to place the Ink side up on the cutting mat and cut the graphic using the mirror image option.
Step #2 Weeding Design
Once the image/design has completed cutting, remove the Infusible Ink from your cutting mat. Weed the Image/Design using the cracking method. See the video for this technique.
Step #3 Applying Image/Design
Place the design face down with the liner side up on the Koozie Blank. Cover with clean butcher paper and press with light pressure at 360°F for 120 s if you are using an EasyPress or 385°F for 40 s if you are using an EasyPress 2. You can double-check your heat settings using Cricuts Easypress Guide HERE. Once the timer has gone off, slowly lift off the EasyPress, and butcher paper, then slowly remove the liner while it is still warm (Note: If transfer sheet remains on Koozie, remove with tweezers).
Step #4 Sewing Koozie
The last step is to sew up the sides of the koozie! Place the front sides together and sew up a sides with a 1/8 seam. Then turn your doozie right side out and you have a customized kookie!
Just think of the great gift these will make for friends and family. They are also fun for bachelorette or bachelor parties! Are you going to make some? If you do, please share your pictures with us. We all want to see them. We would love it if you shared them on our group Facebook Page.
