Summer is just about over, and Fall is in the air! Last week we made Fall Pillow Wraps, so this week I thought it would be fun to make Fabric Pumpkins to add to our fall décor. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love to watch the leaves change colors, and it is time for chilly weather, sweaters, boots, scarves, and pumpkins!
I love to decorate for Fall with Fabric Pumpkins, and they are so easy to make! Have you seen what they are selling for online or in your local stores? I have seen them from anywhere from $6.00 to $30.00. So, I want to show you how you can make them from your fabric stash and a few other supplies. You will be able to make these for a lot less then you can buy them. If you like pumpkins as I do, you might also want to check out my Sweater Pumpkins from last year!
You can’t have too many pumpkins out during Fall! These Fabric Pumpkins are so easy to make. Even if you are just beginning to sew, you’ve got this! So, let’s get started!
Here is a video tutorial on making these cute Fabric Pumpkins, or you can scroll down for the step by step instructions.

STEP #1
Cut out a fabric rectangle. I used a 9” x 22” piece.
Step #2
Fold rectangle, right sides facing each other, so short sides meet. Sew a straight seam along the shore edge. I used a 5/8” seam allowance. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hand stitch this seam.
Step #3
Double the embroidery floss and thread it through the darning needle—Hand Stitch along one end of the folded rectangle. Pull the thread to cinch the fabric closed and tie a knot to secure the seam.
Step #4
Turn the rectangle right side out and stuff with the batting.
Step #5
Double the embroidery floss again and thread the darning needle. Sew around open end; pull the thread to cinch fabric. Leave a small opening to allow you to insert the twig for your stem and then tie a knot to secure the seam.
Step #6
Double the embroidery floss, knot and start at the top of the Pumpkin; pull your thread through the Fabric Pumpkin so that the knot is inside the Pumpkin. Now you will create the pumpkins indents by threading the floss in and out of the pumpkin. Pulling the floss tight each time you pull the floss through the pumpkin center. The video shows this step-in detail.
Step #7
For the stem, I cut a twig from a tree branch in our backyard. I cut my stem 2”. Using a glue gun, place a fair amount of glue into the fabric pumpkin’s center hole and insert the twig.
Step #8
Now it is time to add some decorative leaves. I cut 8- 3” x3” squares to create my leaves. Fold each square into a triangle and hand stitch along each folded edge and cinch the thread to create a leaf. Tie a knot and do the same thing for each square creating a chain of leaves.
Step #9
Next, you will attach the leaves around your stem using your glue gun.
Step #10
Last but not least is to add some Raffia!
That’s it! These cute little fabric pumpkins are so easy to make. I can’t wait to make some more in different colors and fabric patterns. You can get creative and add other extra’s to your Fabric Pumpkins. Why not add a pinecone, a ribbon, or maybe some colored wire? You decide and make it your own. I hope I have inspired you to give it a try.
