I love to use post-it notes for both work and home. I use them on my desk at work for reminders and in my craft room when making notes for projects. Post-It Notes are great to have handy for quick notes in the kitchen or in my purse. I found this great idea for making cute covers for post-it notes and loved the idea. They are a great gift idea and a perfect gift for your favorite teacher. A couple of years ago, I made them for a bazaar, and they were a hit.
This project is also a great use of some our your scrapbook paper. You can make three covers from one 12×12 sheet of paper. Adding a tag to the front of the cover adds a special touch. So many of the scrapbook paper pads come with tags with cute sayings. I love to add them to the front of the cover to give a positive message.
So let’s get started on learning how to makes these cute Post-It covers! Check out the video tutorial below or follow the step by step instructions below! You choose how you want to learn to make these covers!
SUPPLIES
- Post-It Pad 3×3
- Scrapbook Paper
- Glue or Tape Runner
- Tag
- Velcro or Adhesive Dots
- Paper Cutter
- Scoring Board
- We R Memory Keeper Corner Chopper
Post-it Notes come in a variety of colors and sizes. I like to use 3×3 post-its. Once you learn how to make a cover for this size, you can use the process to make covers for the variety of other sizes available.
Step #1 Cutting Paper
The first thing we need to do is cut the paper to size. As I mentioned in the beginning, you can make three covers from one 12×12 sheet of paper. For a 3×3 Post-It pad, you want to cut your paper 3 1/4 x 8 1/4.
Step #2 Scoring Paper
Now it is time to score the paper. You might ask why I score on such a small piece of paper. I love how Everything Scrapbooking put is:
Scoring paper before attempting to fold it stretches and breaks down some of the paper fibers. Scoring makes folding easier and more accurate for one thing and, there are some papers with coatings or inner cores that are different colors than the surface color. Stretching those fibers before you attempt a hard fold gives you a better chance of folding the paper without revealing the inner core. So scoring is the way to go to ensure great folds.
I love to use my scoring board. It makes crisp lines and makes folding so easy. Lay your paper pretty side down and score a line at the 1 1/2″,2″,5″ and 5 1/2″ line.
Step #3 Fold Paper
Once you have the paper scored, folding is a snap. My scoring board came with a bone folder. A bone folder is a dull-edged hand tool used to score, crease, and smooth papers that require perfect lines. Fold the paper at each of the scored lines and use the bone folder to press each fold to create a good crease in the paper.
Step #4 Attach Post-It
Now it is time to attach the Post-It pad. Turn the pad upside down, and using a tape or glue runner, apply tape to the post-it. Then carefully lay the Post-It Note on the inside of the cover.
Step #5 Add Fastener
I like to add a fastener to secure my cover and protect my Post-It Notes. I found these create small fasteners on Amazon that are a lot like velcro, and they work great to hold the cover shut on the Post-It Noteholders.
Step #6 Add an Accent
I like to add something to the front of my covers. Some of the Scrapbook pads have cute sayings added, and I like to add them to the front. A word of positive encouragement is important to me. I like to always look at the glass half full instead of half empty, so positive reinforcement is always great!
I also like to use my We R Memory Makers Corner Chopper to add a rounded edge to my covers.
