I love Valentine’s Day and all the love and hearts! I also love to add a little decor to my house this time of year. Even though the days are getting a little longer, and it is not getting dark as early, I still love these Decorative Candles and they are an easy way to brighten up a room.
Making your own Decorative Candles is easier than you think. I love this idea of using napkins to brighten up a plain candle. I’ve used napkins when I have made coasters in the past, so I have lots of variety on hand. Here is a link to my Napkin Coasters!
So let’s get started on learning how to make these Decorative Candles. You can either watch the video below or follow my step by steps below! You choose!

I like to start by measuring my napkin around my candle. I like to have my napkin a little bigger than the width of the candle. So once you know the size cut your napkin to the correct size.
Most napkins are 2-ply so, you will want to pull the napkin apart. We will be using the top ply.
Wrap the napkin around your candle and trim your napkin to the width and size. I like to cover the middle of my candles.
Wrap the napkin around the candle. Then, take your heat gun or hairdryer and melt the wax. You want to melt the wax just enough so it soaks through the napkin but not so much that it causes the wax to melt and drip.
I found it worked best to hold the candle on its side and move the heat gun back and forth over a small area until the wax soaks through the napkin. You want to be very careful and not burn yourself. The wax get’s very warm. You’ll know when to move onto the next area as the napkin turns shiny from the wax. Work your way around the candle as evenly as possible. Once your napkin is completely coated in wax, set aside to harden.
I bought my candles at Wal-Mart, and I already had plenty of napkins on hand, which was an inexpensive project. I’m keeping these for myself, but I think they’d make a great gift or an addition to gift baskets at your next auction!
