I have to say that I love my Cricut and all the possibilities that it has opened up in my crafting world. Cricut’s Design Space has been my go to when I first make something but, sometimes I can’t find what I need. I discovered LOVESVG.com many years ago for added designs but did you know that there is a hole world of opportunity to find other free SVG Files?
Before we talk about that whole new world. Let’s talk about what a SVG file is and why do you need it? SVG stands for scalable vector graphic. It is the type of file that most cutting machines use including the Cricut and Silhouette. There is software available to create SVG files but when you see how many options are available to you to get free files why spend the time learning how to use a software system to design. It is a great skill to have but I like finding designs and then using my creative side to add my own touches to my items.
Free SVG sites can be a time saver when making items and they are budget friendly. There are also sites that sell SVGs but I like to check out the free sites first! Most of the sites that I want to share with you today offer FREE files and SVG files for a small fee. All you need to do is decide on the design, download it and then upload it into your cutting software. I use Design Space with my Cricut Maker. So if you want to hear about the sites that I have found for FREE SVGs, keep reading!
TIPS TO REMEMBER WITH FREE SVG FILES
Tip #1
Some of the sites will offer a monthly or daily specials and it will only be available for a short time. So rule of thumb is that if you see something you like download it. Because next time you look at it there may be a fee attached to it.
TIP #2
Make sure to understand the terms of use when you download a design. Most sites have a Personal Use and a Commercial Use License. If you are just making something for yourself or a friend you will be fine with the Personal Use. But if you want to sell your creations make sure to check for a Commercial Use License. If you are not sure of the license it is best to ask, especially if you plan to sell your creations.
TIP #3
Please support designers! Most people wouldn’t walk into a store and take something without paying for it just because they like it. Unfortunately, that happens all the time in the online world. I frequently see people suggest to others to “trace it.” Just because an image on Google doesn’t mean it’s free. We also shouldn’t share designs via email or PM. It doesn’t matter if you paid for a design or downloaded it free on a website; everyone should go directly to the source. When you share or trace designs, you’re stealing from a designer who may have spent many hours and money creating it. Even when free on a blog, that blogger is loosing out on page views and possibly advertising revenue.
