Let’s up-cycle jars today! I love to use glass jars to help organize my craft room. I love dressing up a basic jar even more and turning it into a dual-purpose item, a decorative jar, and a valuable item to store items in my craft room. You can find glass jars in lots of sizes and shapes. I love to use canning jars, but you can also up-cycle pickle jars or a mayo jar. I think glass jars are essential in any craft room!
So this week, I want to share with you three ideas I used to up-cycle jars that I am using to store items in my craft room. Each jar is a little different and will give you a few options to decorate a few jars.

Up-Cycle Jars Project #1
Let’s start with the simplest one first. I picked up a glass vase from Dollar Tree and added a coaster I bought at Ikea. Did you know that they fit together perfectly? I topped it off with a cute sunflower magnet that I picked up at a second-hand store. I removed the magnet and glued it to the top. Then I added a sunflower rub-on transfer and filled it with Cotton Balls!
Up-Cycle Jars Project #2
Now let’s decorate a pint jam jar. This jar was a perfect size Q-Tips! First, I found a lid to fit the jar and set it aside. I gave the jar a coat of white chalk paint and let it dry. Once the jar was completely dry, I took a piece of sandpaper and lightly sanded the jar. The jam jar I used has a decorative raised design and is perfect for sanding.
Now let’s add a coat of paint to the lid and let it dry. Then let’s add a knob to the top. I love to pick up draw handles and pulls whenever I find them at garage sales. I grab my drill and drill a hole in the top of the lid in the middle. Then I screw a drawer pull, and you have a great decorative addition to your jar. Fill it up with Q-Tips, and you another Jar complete.
Up-Cycle Jars Project #3
Now let’s decorate a jar to hold ribbon, string, or Jute. I like to make sure I have a wide enough jar for my string spool to fit for this project. I use Jute is so many projects that I like to have it handy for lots of projects. Wide mouth jar is used for this project. The first thing I did was add a layer of Dixie Bell Peacock paint to the jar. Once the jar was dry, I added a layer of Rustoleum Clear coat to the jar.
Now comes the fun part. I love to use Rub-On transfer to add color and design to many crafts. I decided to add a succulent transfer to the jar. Hint! Make sure your jar is completely dry before adding the transfer. If you watch the video above, you will see that I tried to rush to the project and did not let my jar completely dry!
The last step is to drill a hole in the lid. Add your string, ribbon, or Jute to the jar and thread the end through the jar lid. Screw on the lid, and there you have it, a great decorative storage container.
