Guess what? I am going to be a grandma in a few months! Now I need to decide on what to sew. I am starting with something practical, Burp Cloths!
A Granddaughter, I am beyond excited to start sewing for her. I remember sewing when my son was a baby. He used to sit in his bouncy seat on my sewing table. Just think, now, I will start sewing for his daughter. Just writing this is bringing me to tears. What a feeling it is thinking your child will be a daddy and what a good daddy he will be! First off, he picked the best wife, and now they are having a little girl. Wow, what is a mom of boys going to do with a granddaughter!!! But, spoil her!
While I was on vacation last month, I bought lots of material! I found some unbelievable deals in Cozumel, Mexico. So today, let’s sew some burp cloths. Burps cloths are a needed item for any first-time mom. They take care of those little spit-ups or when my son was little, those not so little slit-ups!!!
Burp cloths can be used long after the baby burping stage too! Burp cloths make great face cloths or baby wipes, and they are great when the baby is in the high chair. You know when they want to feed themselves!
Making your own set of burp cloths is fun. They also make excellent baby shower gifts. So many people appreciate homemade gifts! I put together a free pattern for you to use. The pattern is a 3 in 1. Three styles all in one download. Grab it HERE!

BURP CLOTH FABRIC
Let’s talk about what type of material to use for Burp Cloths. The first thing to remember is that you want the fabric to be absorbent and very soft for the baby’s face. I like to use a flannel fabric on the top. The bottom layer can be as easy as using a towel, fleece, flannel, or terry cloth.

HOW TO SEW A BURP CLOTH
STEP #1 CUTTING A BURP CLOTH
Choose which style you would like to make. I have three styles available in the FREE pattern. A Rectangle, Double Contour or Single Contour. Print out the Free pattern. I printed three copies so I could have all three styles cut out. Cut the style you like out and take it together.
Place the pattern on the fold of you fabric and cut out one of each the top and bottom layer.
STEP #2 STITCHING
Place the Top and Bottom pieces of fabric right sides together. Stitch around the rectangle using a 1/4 seam.
Make sure to leave a 2-inch opening so you can turn the BURP CLOTH right side out.
STEP #3 TRIM, TURN AND STITCH
Clip the corners. Turn the burp cloth to the RIGHT side through the gap. Make sure the corners are all poked out and press the BURP CLOTH.
Ensure that the opening we left in Step #2 has the raw edges tucked inside and then press.
STEP #4 PRESS
So, now for the last step. Press the BURP CLOTH and you are done!
That’s it. The first BURP CLOTH is done! Remember, babies like to BURP. So it is now time to make a bundle of them as a great gift. I know that I will be making lots for my new Granddaughter!
