Step #1 Design your prints
The first step in this project is to design your prints. As mentioned earlier, I recommend using Canva for this step. It’s simple to use and it has a ton of great features that will make designing your prints easy and fun.
I really wanted my husband’s favorite hot rod to be the focal point of this layout, so I picked a picture that showcased his ride. Then I added a fun background.
Step #2: Print your designs
Once you’re happy with your design, it’s time to print them out. To do this, you’ll need a sublimation printer with sublimation ink and some sublimation paper. If you don’t have a sublimation printer, you can always take your designs to a local print shop.
Step #3: Heat press your prints
Now it’s time to heat press your prints. I like to turn on my heat press and set the temperature and time. For this project, I set the temperature at 400 Fahrenheit and 7 minutes. To heat-press, your prints, I use the following stack method to ensure my prints come out great.
I start with the pad that came with my heat press then I follow with:
- Blowout paper is commonly called butcher paper
- Design facing up
- Slate Substrate facing down, you can also add some heat-resistant tape to your substrate to ensure it does not slip.
- Blowout paper
Now lower your heat press and let it do its work. When the 7 minutes is up it is time to remove the Slate substrate from the heat-press. Make sure that you put on some heat-resistant gloves. Remember the slate is VERY HOT!
There you have it! You have now made a piece of art showcasing your favorite picture. The results are impressive. Give it a try today.
