Prep Wood
I grabbed a piece of wood from our scrap wood pile that I wanted to use. It was a great find! It was the perfect size for my Key Holder Sign. I gave it a quick sand with some sandpaper to ensure it was smooth.
Apply Napkin
I love using napkins for backgrounds on projects! There are so many designs available, and it’s so easy to find them in stores. I have quite a selection in my crafting stash, and I’m always looking for new ones. I find myself drawn to the delicate patterns and vibrant colors of napkins, and I love how they can add a touch of elegance to any project. Napkins are also very versatile – you can use them for different projects, from scrapbooking to card making to mixed media. So if you’re looking for a beautiful and easy way to add some pizzazz to your projects, don’t forget the humble Napkin!
For today’s project, you want to separate the Napkin. Most napkins are 2 or 3 ply. We only need the top layer for this project. The best way to do this is to carefully peel back the layers until you have just the top layer. This can be a little tricky, but it’s easy once you get the hang of it! Once you have just the top layer, you’re ready to start your project!

Apply a layer of Mod Podge
Now it’s time to start applying the Mod Podge. I like to use a foam brush for this part, but you can use whatever you have on hand. You want to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the wood and then place your Napkin on top.

I love finding new ways to Mod Podge! I was recently trying to decoupage a napkin onto a piece of wood, but I was having trouble getting the Napkin to lay flat. Then I remembered a trick I had seen on YouTube – laying a piece of Saran Wrap over the Napkin before adding the Mod Podge. It worked like a charm! The Saran Wrap protected the Napkin from tearing, and the Mod Podge went on smoothly. Now I always use this trick when I’m decoupaging napkins. It’s such a simple tip, but it makes all the difference!

Carefully remove the Saran Wrap, being careful not to disturb the Napkin. Add a second layer of Mod Podge and let dry completely.
Attach shapes to doorknob or hook
The possibilities are endless when adding the finishing touches to your key holder. Do you want a rustic look? Try using some old doorknobs that you found at a garage sale. Or perhaps you’re going for a more modern look. In that case, try using some sleek and simple command strip hooks. No matter what style you choose, make sure that the doorknobs or hooks you use are big enough to fit your keys. Once you’ve chosen the perfect hardware, simply screw it into place and enjoy your new key holder!

Don’t forget to add hanging hardware on the back of your sign or a rope like I did so you can hang your key holder.

That’s it! You’ve now created a beautiful and functional key holder that will help you keep track of your keys while also adding a touch of personality to your home. Thanks for following along with us, and be sure to share your creations in the comments
