Step #1 Design
First, you will need to design your image. I often use Canva.com to create designs for my luggage handle wrap. I find the website to be very user-friendly and it offers a wide variety of templates that I can customize to fit my needs. Additionally, the site provides a handy set of tools that make it easy to add text, shapes, and images to my sign. Best of all, the finished product always looks professional and polished. Make sure that your image is the correct size and resolution for the blank. I like to measure my blanks first and then create my design using the custom design dimensions.
Step #2 Print Design
Next, print your image onto sublimation paper using sublimation ink. Make sure to print using the mirror image option in your printer settings.
Step #3 Getting Ready for Heat Press
When layering your design for the heat-press, be sure to start with a piece of blowout paper. This will help to prevent any ink from bleeding through to the heat-press cushion. Next, place the luggage handle wrap blank face down on your printed design. Secure it in place with heat-resistant tape. Then lay the luggage handle wrap on top of the blowout paper. Finally, cover the whole assembly with another piece of blowout paper. This will help to prevent any ink from bleeding through.
Step #4 Heat Press
Next, preheat the heat press according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I also like to refer to my “Sublimation Tip Book” whenever I am working on a sublimation project. Once your heat press is preheated it is time to let your heat press do its work. Secure the heat press in the closed position and let it heat for the recommended time. Once the timer goes off lift the heat press and carefully lift off the blowout paper and design. I strongly recommend putting on your heat-resistant gloves. Remember to everything is HOT! Peel the image away from the blank. That’s it! You now have a beautiful, personalized luggage handle wrap!
