A teething ring is a great way to soothe your baby’s sore gums while providing differing textures for them. The wooden texture provides relief to sensitive teeth, and the soft fabric ears make it easier than ever before to wipe up all those drool! You can easily wash this fun feeding accessory in between uses- perfect if you’re looking ahead at upcoming showers or birthdays where one might be necessary again soon 🙂
Plus, being a new grandma can be both fun and exciting, you want to do everything you can to help your grandchild, but you also want to give them the space to grow and learn. So when my four-month-old granddaughter started teething, I knew I wanted to make her something special to help soothe her gums.
I decided to make her a teething ring out of soft fabric. I had some scraps from the baby quilt I made and with fun colors, I thought it would capture her attention. The ring is wooden and easy for her to hold, and the fabric is gentle on her gums. Plus, depending on the fabric, it can also serve as a sensory toy. I’m glad I could make something that my granddaughter could enjoy and use.
So what are we waiting for let’s get started!

HELPFUL HINTS BEFORE YOU MAKE A TEETHING RING
- I used a 1/2″ seam allowance
- It is best to wash the fabric before you start and it helps to press the fabric before you cut out the pattern.
- I got my Wooden ring from Amazon but you can also find them on Etsy.

LET’S GET STARTED
TEETHING RING PATTERN
- To start let’s make a pattern. It is fun and easy and it will save you time next time you want to make a Teething Ring! Measure out a rectangle 3″ x 8″ on a piece of card stock or cardboard.
- Measure over 1 1/2″ from the top and make a small mark. This should be the center of the rectangle on the short end.
Measure down 2″ on the long side of the rectangle on the same end as you did in the previous step. Make that mark on both sides.
Now using a round object, I use a roll of tape, draw a curved line connecting the center dot to the first side dot on the left side and then do the same on the right side.
Label your pattern with the pattern name, and how many cuts, and indicate where to place the pattern on the fold.
Cut out your pattern.
Step one is done you just created a pattern!
CUTTING & SEWING
Using the pattern piece you just made, cut one from your Terry cloth or Towel fabric and one from the cotton fabric.
Place the piece’s right sides together and pin them in place.Â
Sew the two pieces together by sewing along the edge with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Make sure to leave about a 4″Â gap. We will use that to turn the fabric’s right sides out.
Clip corners and trim seam allowances.
Turn the fabric to the right side. I like to use my Clover Turing tool to help smooth out the seams.
Once you have it all smoothed out give the fabric a good press with your iron.
To close the opening and to give it a professional look, topstitch around the edge. I use between 1/8″ and a 1/4″ seam allowance. I also increase my stitch length to 3.5mm. This helps make the topstitch nice and smooth.
TYPING THE KNOT
Fold your fabric in half.
Pull the looped through the wooden right halfway.
Then pull the ends through the looped end.
Check that the ends are laying flat and pull tight!
There you have it! Your very own teething ring! This project is so simple and can be completed in less than an hour, making it the perfect last-minute baby shower gift or birthday present.
And because it’s so easy to make, you can easily whip up a few of these to keep on hand for when those pesky teething pains strike! So don’t wait, get started on your teething ring today!
