Infinity Scarf Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step #1 Cut Fat Quarters
Cut down each fat quarter to a 17” x20” rectangle. You should now have 4 rectangles in total. Next, you need to cut 2 – 7“x8” pieces of fabric for the pocket. I just used some scrap material I had in my stash!
Step #2 Sew Fat Quarters
Next, let’s sew together the 4 fat quarters on the 17” side with the right sides together. Once you have sewn them together, you will have a piece of fabric now about 17 “x79”.
Step #3 Press Fabric
The next step is to give each of the seams a nice press. I like to press open the seam.
Step #4 Add Zipper
Next, we want to add the zipper. First, decide what fat quarter you wish to add the zipper. With your main fabric laying RIGHT SIDE UP, place a zipper facing DOWNWARDS 3” from the end of the material along one of the long edges.
Then Sandwich it by laying a pocket piece on top and clip it in place.
Using a zipper foot or regular foot on your sewing machine, sew along the edge.
Fold back the pocket piece and press.
Repeat the steps by adding the other pocket piece to the other side of your fat quarter.
Step #5
Once both ends of the zipper have been installed, close up the zipper and line up the raw edges of the fabric strip wrong sides together and clip in place. Sew a 1/2″ seam along the long edge of the fabric and around the pocket. Leave a 3″ opening at the bottom of the pocket. We will use that to turn the scarf at the end.
Step #6
To finish off your infinity scarf, find the middle of one short end and line it up with the middle of one long side.
Step #7
At this point, you want to make sure to open up the zipper, or you will have an issue turning the scarf right side out.
Pin these two raw edges together, right sides facing each other and then sew around the entire perimeter of the scarf with a ½” seam allowance.
Step #8
Trim off any excess thread and turn the scarf right through the opening you left in the pocket. Add a zig-zag stitch to the opening at the bottom of the pocket.
Then push the pocket in, and you have completed your Infinity Scarf with a pocket!
Now you have a beautiful infinity scarf that is perfect for adding warmth and style to your outfit this fall! By following these simple steps, you can easily make an infinity scarf with a hidden zipper pocket that is perfect for carrying your essentials with you on those chilly days!
