Inspiration by way of Tutorials
Embarking on my creative journey with watercolors, the next step was to explore YouTube for some tutorials. I found several amazing videos that kept me motivated and inspired! If you want to get into painting with these vibrant colors, here are a few must-see sources of inspiration (that won’t leave you disappointed!).
- Emma Jane Lefebvre is a watercolor artist from Canada who loves teaching!

Tapping into Your Creativity
When it comes to watercolors, there really is no limit to what you can create. Have fun exploring different shapes and lines using different brush strokes—each one will create something unique and special!
You can add textures like dots or stripes by dabbing your brush into the paint before applying it to the paper. This technique will take some practice, but it’s worth learning! Finally, don’t forget about color mixing. Combining two colors can often create an attractive shade that adds depth and texture to your work.
Making Whimsical Characters Come Alive
Now for the fun part—creating characters! Start by sketching out some ideas on paper first before adding any color. Think about what kind of character you want to make—do they have wings? What kind of eyes do they have? Are their arms long or short? Once you know what type of character you want, add color using the techniques mentioned earlier in this post!
Don’t be afraid to use bright colors and muted tones; this will help bring your character alive on the page! If you’re feeling stuck during this process, take a break and return when inspiration strikes again—you’ll be amazed at how quickly ideas come back after taking a breather!
Create on the Go
Love to travel but want to take advantage of your crafty side? Now you can take painting with you wherever, whenever – just grab a watercolor sketchbook, paints, brushes, a pen & pencil, a paper towel, and some water. Ready! Set! Paint the world in gorgeous colors on the go!
Last week I had a fun trip to San Antonio with my husband! I packed our laptop, book, and watercolors for the journey. With a lounge chair by the pool as my canvas inspiration struck – breathtaking colors came alive in bright blues and greens before me. As more people passed on their inner tubes down the lazy river, they couldn’t help but take in this unique experience of artwork creating itself right before them! Remember to pack your paintbrushes–you never know when inspiration will strike during travels!
What happened on a Whim!
I decided to take on an exciting challenge that a friend suggested with I showed her one of my whimsical characters. Why not turn one of my watercolor characters into the lead in a children’s story!
