My craft room has been busy with making activities this week. I love being able to create unique and personalized items with my Cricut Maker. It makes making that much more special. And when the result is quick to achieve—like with these attractive glass cutting boards —that’s even sweeter.
Supplies
- 13″x15″ glass cutting boards that are pebbly on one side and smooth on the other. I found mine at Goodwill. I also found smaller round ones at the Dollar Tree.
- Permanent adhesive vinyl – I used Black and Brown 651 Vinyl
- Blue Grid Transfer Paper
- Scraper -I use a large one.
- Cricut Maker and Design Space.
Most of the time I find my designs on Cricut’s Design Space, but when I don’t see a design I like I have another great source. It is one of the sources that I think will take your crafting to the next level. It will give you even more design options for your projects and you can get them for free! The site is Lovesvg.com.
Check out the site and find a design the you want to use. I searched “Thanks” and the result came back with lots of options.
Design Space
- Download your SVG to your computer in a location you will remember and can access easily. (View the video link below for step by step instructions)
- Open Cricut Design Space and log in
- Next, click “New Project”
- A blank canvas screen will then open, and we want to click the “Upload Images” button on the left side toolbar
- The next screen will allow us to choose whether we want to upload an image or pattern. We will choose the left side and upload an image.
- Select “Browse” to locate the folder you saved your SVG file from the LOVESVG site.
- Once you select your saved SVG, you will get a screen like this below. Your are ready to go unless you want to add a tag the image. I usually leave my blank. Now click on the green save button on the bottom right-hand side.
- You will now see that your new SVG design is in that first spot under the “Recently Uploaded Images” section. Select that image and then click the “Insert Images” on the bottom right-hand side.
- This will place your SVG onto your blank canvas in Design Space.
Cutting & Weeding
Right size your image and cut and weed your design as per usual. Making sure to turn on the mirror image. You will be placing this design on the underneath of the cutting board. One of the great things about this cutting board project is that generally, the design is large enough that you don’t have too many intricate pieces to deal with…cutting and weeding is usually a breeze. The one trick to this project is to get it centered on your cutting board. To take the guesswork out and make application easy, I use the grid lines of the transfer paper to indicate the center of my design. Then I use my Cricut self-healing mat to help. I lay the cutting board on top of the mat and center the cutting board. I show these steps in the YOUTUBE video below along with a full tutorial on this project.
There you go – a quick simple project! I am adding this to a basket I am putting together for an upcoming charity auction. I found my cutting board at our Goodwill but I have also made smaller circle cutting boards and I found those at my local Dollar Tree. You can pick up a glass cutting board anywhere and personalize it. Remember that these cutting boards need to be hand wash only as vinyl is not dishwasher safe. I normally just wipe down the front of the board after each use.
Also as a note, vinyl is not food safe, so this is a great reason to apply it to the back of the cutting board. The bonus for this project is that it is dual purpose! A practical cutting board and a great deco piece for your kitchen!
I hope you enjoy this fun project!

[…] Dollar Tree Glass Cheese boards can also be personalized with a family name on it or a monogram. I love the quotes of inspiration or you can add whatever you love. I also have done the larger glass cutting boards. You can check out that post here. […]
