10 Ways to Inspiration

Have you ever wondered how people come up with so many great ideas to create? Friends ask me all the time, “How did you come up with that idea?” Inspiration comes from so many different sources. Let’s take a look at 10 of my favorite sources for inspiration.

1. YOUTUBE – 

I have some fellow crafters that inspire me all the time and hen I get asked the question, “How did you learn to do that?” My response almost every time is “I am a YOUTUBE junkie! Just the other day I learned how to make my own card-stock with on hand supplies I have at home. I will be posting a video on that soon. I also get lots of great ideas on different tools to add to my collection like the We R Memory Makers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper I discovered. On one of my upcoming Blogs, we will go over my favorite tools!

2. Thrift Store –

My usual Friday morning adventure is visiting our local thrift stores. I love using up-cycled materials for lots of my crafts, and there are all different kinds of supplies that you can find at a thrift store. Just like that old saying, “Another women’s trash is another woman’s treasure.” Those supplies can be anything like wine glasses, an old tray, or a charger. You can etch wine glasses, turn a dish into an auction item, and make Santa cookie plates from chargers.

3. Strolling Pinterest –

I love creating boards on Pinterest for future projects. Currently, I have 12 boards on my Pinterest site:

• Pantry
• Baby Book Ideas
• Cards
• Yard Games

• Up-Cycling

Creating boards is a great tool to pin inspiration for a later project.

4. Upcoming Event–

Do you have an upcoming event that you can make something for?

• Birthday
• Baby Shower
• Wedding Shower
• Wedding
• Holiday
• Vacation

I am currently working on wine tumblers for an upcoming girls weekend. In the past, I have made party favors for New Years Eve parties and yard games for camping trips. Another idea is making baby shower gifts or a reveal board. I recently just made a reveal board for a friend’s daughter to help announce their new baby girl.

5. Clean-up! –

This one might sound funny, but you all know that you have a stash of craft material somewhere. Maybe you saw something one time while you were shopping in your local craft store and just had to get it. Then when you got home, you already had a project going on, so you stuffed it in the closet or a drawer. Cleaning and organizing your space is a way to rediscover hidden treasures in your own supplies. Just the other day I found a jewelry kit I bought at a scrapbooking show that I had never used. “Guess what?” I made two necklaces for my boys’ girlfriends that contained handwriting from their grandmothers. Let me tell you, it was a hit. So clean your space!

6. Local Bazaars or Farmers Market! –

Go check out your local crafters and get inspired. I have gotten lots of ideas for future projects this way. I love to support the vendor by purchasing something that I can later use as a pattern. That is how I first got the idea for my curtain make-up bags. I will be sharing a tutorial on those soon.

7. Visit your local craft store! –

Now let me tell you that this one can be hazardous! The first time I went into Hobby Lobby I was in there for 2 hours, and I did not see everything. But I sure did get inspiration, and my wallet did take a hit! This is also a fun way to see what is new or to explore an idea for a different type of craft.

8. Join a Facebook Group –

I have a few Facebook groups that I joined and have got the inspiration to try some new things. For instance, I never thought I would get into making Epoxy Tumblers, but I am hooked.

9. Visit your local Bookstore or Library –

There are so many great books that have ideas on all type of projects. I did this last year when I was looking for plans for a local bazaar I was attending.

10. Go Shopping –

This is another one that can get you in trouble, but it can also inspire you. Go for a stroll in some of those cute little shops that we all have in or around our community and look at their displays. I did this last year while I was Christmas shopping. I was thinking of getting journals for some gifts. There were some adorable journals in the stores, but they wanted a fortune for them. So I got inspired to make journals. I loved how they turned out, and I actually use one for myself every day. One of my upcoming blogs will have a tutorial on them.
