Check out the video tutorial below or follow the step by step instructions below! You choose how you want to learn to make this project!
Step #1 Cut Burlap
Cut a 5” x 9” piece of burlap. If you want your flower to be fuller, just cut the burlap ribbon longer or broader.
Step #2 Pull Burlap Strings
Lay your burlap on the table in front of you. Measure down about 1” on the long side. Carefully begin pulling out the long strands of burlap from the short side. Continue pulling strands until you are 1” from the bottom. Take your time and only pull one strand at a time.
Step #3 Glue Burlap
Apply Hot Glue to one long edge of the burlap.
Step #4 Fold & Align Burlap
Fold the opposite long edge over onto the glued long edge, making sure to align the long edges. Wait until the edges have adhered to each other.
Step #5 Add Center to Burlap Flower
At this point you can add some florist tape to your Shish-kabob to make the stem look realistic. They add hot glue to a Pompom or button and place it onto the end of the Shish-kabob. You can also wait and do this step after the flower is rolled in the next step.
Step #6 Roll Burlap
Add Hot Glue to the short edge of the burlap. Lay the Wooden Shish-kabob on the glue about 1” from the bottom. Add a small amount of Hot Glue to the long edge and begin rolling your burlap around the Wooden Shish-kabob. Add more Hot Glue as you roll the burlap. Make sure to keep the long edges aligned as you move.
Step #6 Finishing Touches on Burlap Flower
Spread out the loops of the height. There you have it, a beautiful Burlap Flower!
I made my Burlap flowers and added them to some cute wooden boxes I picked up at the Dollar Tree. I just added some white paint and some rub-on hearts, and it makes for a fun Valentine’s Day arrangement! You could make these and add them to a mason jar, and they would look great any time of the year!
The pompoms I used in this project I picked up in an after Christmas sale. They were a red garland. I thought a cute button would make a fun center to these burlap flowers, or even a small wooden bead would add some color. Use your imagination! When you use your imagination, it ignites all kinds of ideas, and before you know it, you have an original design!
