Deco Mesh wreaths are all over Pinterest. Have you tried making one yet? A couple of weeks ago, I shared a Deco Mesh wreath that looks like a sunflower. There are so many different versions of deco mesh wreaths. They are so fun to make, and you can make one for each season. Add a wreath to your front door and even make one for a centerpiece.
You can add additions to your wreath for any season. Let me show you this basic how to make a Mesh Wreath with the pull-through wreath method. These few simple steps will have you making lots of wreaths. So, let’s get started.
Deco Mesh, what is it?
Simply put, it is a mesh-like ribbon. But, let me tell you, there are so many different types of Deco Mesh on the market today. It works excellent for wreaths because it is so bendable, and the number of colors available is crazy! You will find Deco Mesh ribbon in plain colors, plaid prints, metallic strings and colors with no metallic strings added, burlap, jute, and cotton. Deco Mesh also comes in different widths. You will find it 5 1/2-inch and 10-inch widths. Choose the width that works best for your project.
Supplies
- Wire Wreath – I used a 14”

Step #1 Prep Wreath
I like to prep my wreath first to save a little time along the way. Start by wrapping some pipe cleaners around the metal wreath at 6 cross-sections on the wreath.
Hint:
• Make sure to twist the pipe cleaners a couple of times to ensure they are secure to the wreath.
• I like to use a color pipe cleaner that matches your Deco Mesh just in case they show through.
Step #2 Attaching Deco Mesh
For the pull-through method, there is no need to cut the Deco Mesh to start. I start with the end of the Deco Mesh, pinch the ribbon’s end, lay it between one of the twisted pipe cleaners, and twist the pipe cleaner to hold it in place. Ensure that the twisted end of the pipe cleaner is on the back of the wire wreath to hide it.
The wire wreath will have four-wire layers or rows. I like to work the Deco Mesh through the second and third row. For the first layer, I use the second row. I use my hand to measure each length of pull-through.
Then I push it off to the side and pull through another length on the other side of the second row and keep repeating until you hit the crossbar and the next pipe cleaner.
Lay the deco mesh on the pipe cleaner and twist and secure it on the back as you did at the start. Keep working your way through each section of the wreath.
To add some fullness to the wreath, I add a second layer. You can add a different color of deco mesh or stay with the same color. You choose.
Repeat the same steps in the third row, adding more pipe cleaners to fill in any empty space. I like to spread the pipe cleaners and twist the pipe cleaners in the same method as we did for the first layer.
Step #3 Add a Finishing Touch
Now comes the time to add a little something to your wreath. Think about the season you are making the wreath for and add ornaments or notions to your wreath. I also like to add metal or word wording to my wreaths. You can use more pipe cleaners, wire, or glue to add your finishing touches.
Don’t forget that your wreath can either hang on your front door or serve as a beautiful centerpiece to dress up your table.
