It’s that time of year again—time to put all the Christmas decorations away. So I thought it would be fun to replace my wreath with a Welcome Door sign.
I love to hit the sales after Christmas, and I scored on some large Christmas rounds at Wal-Mart this year that I will use to make a Welcome Door sign.
I think it adds so much when you add something welcoming to your door. It is so welcoming and inviting, making my Happy Place perfect at first view.
I see all kinds of Welcome Door signs for sale on Etsy and even at our local vendor store in town. The prices run anywhere from $40 to $50. I want to share how you can make your round for a quarter of the cost.

Check out the video tutorial below or follow the step-by-step instructions below! You choose how you want to learn to do this project!
Step #1 Prep Welcome Sign
Since I am using a Round from Christmas I like to remove any attachments and then, I give it a good sand to rough up the Christmas design.
Step #2 Paint Welcome Sign
Paint the front and back of the round with white chalk paint and let it dry.
Once it is dry I like to add a second color to my round. I tape off the round and before I add the second color I paint along the tape line with the white paint again. This step will help seal the edges.
Let it dry and then add the second color and let dry.
Step #3 Create Design
I created a stencil to use with my Cricut and Design Space. Here is a link to my stencil!
Get the stencil into position, centered in the lower half of the circle, and whatever color you used as the base color, use it again and paint over the stencil. Then repaint the stencil with your topcoat. This method will ensure that you have crisp edges on your letters! Check out the video to see my method to add my stencil straight on my round.
Step #4 Add Hardware
I like to add a hanger to my rounds, and I am going to use the same holes that are already on my round, but if you don’t have holes already, drill two holes about 6″ apart in the upper part of the circle. The holes will allow you to knot string, rope, or ribbon through for hanging.
Step #5 Add Embellishments
Now it is time to add to your Welcome Door sign. I like to add greenery and a bow. I want to add my greenery first by hot glueing a few pieces in place. Then I make a bow and glue it on top of the greenery!
The last step is to hang it on your door! And enjoy looking at it every time you walk in the door!
