To get started, head to Canva and create a free account. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be taken to the main dashboard where you can start creating your design.
Create Canvas Design
First, choose the type of design you want to create. Canva offers templates for just about everything, so finding one to fit your needs shouldn’t be too difficult. I like to use the custom settings to create my designs. That way I know that my design will fit perfect on my substrate!
Size
For this tutorial, we’ll be creating a custom size design. Start by selecting “Create a Design” in the right-hand corner.
Next, add the dimensions of your design. I like to start with my dimensions so that I know exactly how my design will look.
Add Canva Graphics
Then you can easily add graphics – simply click on templates and add the graphic you want and drag it into position. You can also resize and rotate graphics as needed.
Add Text
The same goes for text, just click on the text box tool and type in your text or use one of the text templates. You can also resize and move your text around as needed.
Change Positions
You can also reposition the elements in your design by using the position option. Try it out, bring elements forward and then send them back!
Export Canva Design
Once you have your design finished, you can export it. There are numerous options but I like to use “PNG” for sublimation projects. This helps ensure the best quality image. But you can also use PDF or JPEG format. To export as a “PNG”, click on the “Share” then select “Download”. Then select “PNG.”
Print Canva Design
You can now send your design to a sublimation printer with sublimation ink and print on sublimation paper. Now your design is ready to apply to your substrate. I will be using a frosted glass for this fun design!
