This week I thought it would be fun to do a fall project. It’s getting a little bit cooler in the mornings, cooler in the evenings. The leaves are starting to change. So that’s why I decided on a fall project. I also want to share a new craft supply item that I’ve discovered and its Folk Arts Crackle.
I wanted to try it on a small project before I tried something much larger. So I’ve got a cute little pumpkin that we’re going to put together today, and I can’t wait to show you. We’re going to get going on learning how to use Folk Art Crackle and a rub-on Sunflower transfers to make a fall Pumpkin.
I’m super excited to try this project out with you today. So we are going to decorate a wooden pumpkin. I am going to use Folk Art Crackle, which I have not tried yet. So, let’s try it together. I’m also going to add a sunflower transfer to the pumpkin. I love fall time. I thought, what a great time to try out Folk Art’s Crackle product? I love what it looks like after it is applied to a surface. I’ve been watching lots of different tutorials on it. So I thought I would give it a try. I picked a little pumpkin at Target. I love going to like their dollar spot, but this was over by where the stationery items are located.

Check out the video tutorial below or follow the step by step instructions below! You choose how you want to learn to make this project!
Step #1 Base Coat
I start with a base coat of Folk Arts Bark Brown and let it dry completely.
Step #2 Adding Crackle
Then I add a thin coat of Folk-Art Crackle and let it dry. The directions on the bottle tell me not to brush over an area already painted area. So, keep your strokes smooth. Once you have the area covered, let it dry.
Step #3 Add Second Coat
For the topcoat, I like to mix my paints. I used pumpkin and khaki, and I think it gives the pumpkin a cute color. Okay. So, let if our Crackle begins. I apply my mixed paint color in even strokes over the dry Crackle layer. As soon as start adding the second coast I can see the crackle effect starting to work. Once you have covered your entire surface, let the paint dry and watch the Crackle happen.
Step #4 Add Sunflower
I bought my Sunflower transfers from MaikaDaughters’s Etsy shop. They are Rub-on Transfers for Furniture, but I loved them so much that I wanted to add a small Sunflower to my pumpkin. The package comes with so many sunflowers that I will have lots of Sunflowers for other projects. Here is a quick link.
I found the Sunflower that I wanted to use and cut it out. Once I cut it out, remove the white backing before you start rubbing it on.
These transfers stick quickly and cannot be moved. So make sure it is in the right place before you start rubbing on the transfer. You will use the tool that came with the transfers to rub the transfer onto the pumpkin.
Then carefully pull back on the protection sheet, and it will reveal the Sunflower on the pumpkin. If the transfer is not transferred on, then continue to rub. Just take your time. It will be worth it!
I also added a few leave to add to the design.
Step #5 Top Coat
I added a topcoat of Miniwax Helsman Urethane Spar to protect both the paint and the transfer.
Now, all we need to do is add a bow or ribbon, and you have a cute pumpkin!
